15 iPhone tips and tricks

1. When typing on your iPhone’s keypad, if you make a mistake, and your
iPhone offers up the correct word underneath your misspelling, click
the SPACE bar to accept the suggestion. To ignore the suggestion, just
keep typing.

2. If you want to add a word to the iPhone’s custom
dictionary, type it. You should consider adding your name, your
friends’ names, your company name, street name, and similar words.

3. If you realise you’ve made a typing error a few sentences
back, tap your finger where the mistake was made to position the cursor
there using the magnifying glass. You can then correct the error, and use the same technique to
return to your previous position in the text.

4. Double-tab the SPACE bar to add a period (full stop) followed by a space.

5. Double-tap a picture, map, or web page to zoom in on it.

7. In Safari, after scrolling to the bottom of the page, tap the top of the screen to immediately return to the top of the page.

8. If you’ve ever flicked so hard that the web page you’re navigating scrolls way past where you want to be, you can stop scrolling by tapping the page during the scroll.

10. Quick Delete - the bulk delete feature is great but
did you know that if you swipe left or right on an email message in the
view mode, a red delete button will appear in-line?

11. Press & Hold for Alternate Characters - if you
want to insert a different character, like to type España, with the
tilda, just hold the appropriate character and slide/release to select
it.

12. Soft Reset - press and hold the Home and Power buttons at the same time for a few seconds and your iPhone will reboot.

13. Take a Screenshot - if you want to take a screen
capture, press and hold the home button and quickly press and release
the power button. Your screen should flash white briefly and the image
will be stored in your photo library.

14. Fast Forward/Rewind in Music & Video - pressing and holding the forward or rewind buttons will go forward or backward in your music or video

15. Click & Hold URLs - in Safari, if you press and hold a link, you will see the URL and the site name.

iPhone 3G - a few months on.....

Well I'e had my iPhone for a number of months now and the love affair continues....

The more I use it the more I love it.

Few minor issues - if I leave wireless and GPS on all day the battery life is only just enough, cut and paste would be really good and 32 meg would be better....but these ar monor things.

Reception has been great = none of the US issues here. Apps just get better and Apple software updates continuing to improve it.

No other phone has given me this level of satisfaction before.

New Ipods due

The news is out there: Apple will very soon be announcing it's iPod refresh for 2008/2009.

Expect some changes to the Nano looks + more capacity

Expect more capacity for the iPod touch

And more capacity for the classic range.

Most of all expect price cuts!

Apple news: Itunes and APP store

OK for those who like it first....

The new version of iTunes is ready to download. It includes all the hooks for the new iPhone and version 2.0 software release and of course APP store.

App store is hidden at present but you can get to it by searching for AOL AIM in the store search then 'backing out' to App store. Here you will find all the goodie apps for free download or paid download.

Remember you still need version 2.0 of the software to run these!!

Vista on Apple MacBook Pro: Hints & Tips II

Following on from the previous tip we name have the problem of where is the # key!

Being a UK keyboard version of the MacBook Pro my baby is missing a # key! (It has been replaced by the £ key). So the solution is two fold:

1. If you are using the UK (Apple) keyboard driver then simply use Right Alt and 3. Like this #

2. If you are using the UK keyboard driver then use the \ key on the keyboard giving you #. Next question is where has \ gone - well its where it normally is on a UK keyboard (non-Apple) or ` key!

Hope that helps!

My own view on this is on my MAC keyboard I have on my 2 key both @ and € symbols why Apple can't add # on my 3 key I don't know!!!

Vista on Apple MacBook Pro: Hints & Tips

This is the first tip that I needed when I strated using Vista on my MAC - how do I use the keyboard and of course as I'm in the UK, how do I use a UK keyboard!

Well the solution is simple: between them Microsoft and Apple provide both keyboard mappings for UK and Apple UK! This means you can use you keyboard as if it where a standard UK one or an Apple UK one!

Airport Extreme with BT Home Hub

I recently purchase an Airport Extreme to get the 'N' coverage my Home Hub doesn't provide. As I have BT Vision (works very, very well) I couldn't scrape my Home Hub.

I have a number of computers that need to hang of this not least my XBOX 360 and PS3 (bluray player not games machine note) so I approached this with a little trepidation. My computers are a mixture of Wintel PC's and Laptops + 3 MAC's (note each also runs Vista).

Advice from my friendly MAC shop was just to use the supplied Airport config program.

This worked a dream allowing me to setup both my hub and new Airport Extreme auto configuring bridge mode and giving me the option of shutting down my Home hub wireless.

In the end I selected the option for my Extreme to just support 'N' and the Homehub to support the rest.

All worked first time.....

Re-booting my MacBook Pro into Vista mode I was immediately able to connect to my Airport Extreme. All works a dream...
